McLean High School Band Parents Association (MHSBPA)
All parents and guardians of MHS Band and Color Guard students are automatically members of the McLean High School Band Parents Association (MHSBPA), which meets at least three times each year. The MHSBPA is a tax-exempt charitable organization within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Copies of our Form 990 “Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax” filed with the Internal Revenue Service are available upon request. We make our governing documents - Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, financial statements, tax returns, and other policy documents - available to the public upon request. Send any requests to Mr. Weise at CMWeise@fcps.edu.
The Officers and Directors make up the Executive Board. They meet at 7:30 pm on the second Tuesday of the month during the school year in the Career Center in the Guidance Office at MHS. All Band Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the Executive Board Meetings. See the calendar for scheduled meetings. Attendance is a good way to keep up with Band activities.
The MHSBPA is involved in all aspects of the band program. We conduct the fundraising efforts to purchase and repair equipment, pay registration costs for events and competitions, produce award winning half-time shows and provide weekly sectional instruction from specialists on the various band instruments.
Parents organize the travel for Marching Band competitions, Jazz Band events, and the spring trip for the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Symphonic band. For many years, we have hosted the Fairfax County District XII All-District Band Festival at McLean High School, as well as Vienna Band Camp held at Longfellow Middle School. We organize and chaperone the summer marching activities. We work with various media to provide publicity in the community for the bands and all of their great achievements.
The MHSBPA is always looking for a few good volunteers to lend a helping hand toward our many projects and events. Please browse the through the various board leadership positions to find the best match for your special talents!
