Color Guard / Winter Guard

The McLean High School Color Guard is a vital component of the Marching Band, and it continues to grow each year. Under the direction of Kaitlyn Ries the 2017 Color Guard consists of 31 members who spin, toss, dance and perform with flags, rifles and sabres to enhance the Marching Band field show performance. They are integral to the Marching Band in the summer and fall, and may not necessarily be members of the band music program. Participating in color guard demands athleticism, coordination, strength, artistry and a passion to perform!

At the conclusion of the fall marching season the McLean Guard program trains and fields 3 teams (Cadet, Junior-Varsity, and Varsity) that compete in the Scholastic division in the Atlantic Indoor Association winter guard competition circuit. Members learn fundamentals and develop their skills on the Cadet team (which is also open to middle school students in the McLean pyramid). Students will audition for placement on the JV and Varsity teams. Participation in Winter Guard is a great way for current McLean students to continue to develop performance skills after Marching Band season, and it is a great opportunity for middle school students to get an early start learning alongside high school student-athletes in a successful program!
